Our Community

St Paul’s Church Nursery School was set up in accordance with a resolution of the St Paul’s Church PCC (January 2004) and is managed in line with the vision and values of St Paul’s Church.

Aims

The aims of the Nursery are:

  • To provide outstanding quality daily education and care for children aged 2-5 years and their families, within the local community.
  • To incorporate the Christian world-view, ethos and values into the provision of education and care, whilst remaining aware of, and respectful towards, those of other faiths.
  • To be a key part of the vision of St Paul’s church. Specifically, by parents and children being exposed to, informed about and welcomed into St Paul’s church family life and faith.
  • To advance the education and training of staff in the provision of Early Years education and care.
  • To carry out all aims, objectives and activities within an equal opportunities policy, giving consideration to social and economic circumstances, ethnic and cultural origins, an awareness of physical, sensory or learning disability and without gender or racial stereotyping.

Management Committee

The nursery is run by a Management Committee, which operates with delegated powers from St Paul’s PCC. It meets twice a term and is responsible for approving the finance/budget, policies and key staff appointments. It also receives reports from the Head, and its members visit the nursery and help out on open occasions such as the Fun Day.

Meet the Management Committee:

Laura has been Chair since June 2016 and is part of the leadership of St Paul’s Church. She was previously involved with Dorking Nursery School and Children’s Centre, where she was a Governor or Chair for a decade. She writes...

“I have had a passion for nursery education since my children were little, second only to my love for our local church. Having the two come together in a role like this has been fantastic. It is a privilege to work with the dedicated staff team and also with the church operations team who ensure we have such a fantastic setting for our children”

Secretary:  Natacha Fricker
Natacha is a member of St Paul’s church and keeps a record of all that the nursery committee decides; minutes are available to parents on request to the nursery.

Steve Henwood (Children and Youth Worker, St Pauls Church)

Katie Davis 2017Parent Representative:  Katie Weekes
If you are a parent at the nursery, Katie is a key person to know; she will represent parents at the committee meetings, and also organise a few coffee mornings and a bit of fundraising for special extra pieces of play equipment.

The parent representative stands for a maximum of two years, after which there is an opportunity for anyone with a child at the nursery to stand for election. We always welcome fresh faces and new ideas.

Vicar:  Rev'd Ruth BushyagerRuth
Ruth is also fully involved in the nursery, she writes...

“As a church, we are really proud of our outstanding nursery. I love bumping into parents and children at the Centre each day, and each Thursday one of the church staff goes into nursery for story and song time. We also host all kinds of events and activities for young families at St Paul's - we have a free cafe every morning, a thriving toddler group, NCT classes and much more - do explore the church website and come and visit!"

It is a legal obligation for us to hold an Annual General Meeting at which the Annual Report and receipts and payment account and a statement of assets and liabilities are presented. However, we also like to make it an interesting time to talk about life in the nursery and to take questions from those who have an interest in it, so please look out for the date of the next one; it is normally held in March. Those eligible to attend are the Management Committee, PCC members and parents of children attending or about to attend the Nursery.
