Thanksgiving for the birth of a child
At St Paul's church we love to celebrate the birth of a child with services of 'thanksgiving' or 'dedication'. We also love to celebrate the adoption of a child by giving thanks to God and praying for the family. These are always joyous occasions and happen within the context of a Sunday service, normally at 10:30am - on any Sunday of the month. We gather the church family, the family and friends of the child, and together give thanks to God for the wonderful gift of the baby. We pray for and bless the child and their parents, and this is a service offered widely to anyone and everyone who would like to have it. You do not have to be committed Christians or church members to come and celebrate the birth of your baby with us - it would be our delight to welcome you. Please contact us below to arrange a service.
Infant Baptism
Infant Baptism gives the opportunity for members of the church to bring their children before God in a public declaration of their intent to raise them as followers of Jesus and within the family of the Christian Church. At the baptism service, the whole church family also makes commitments to support the child as he or she grows up within the community of faith. If you are wanting to explore baptism for your child and are not currently worshippers at St Paul's we would love to welcome you to our Sunday services and our midweek groups for families and young children.
Funerals are both a time of thanksgiving for the life of a loved one and an occasion to commit them to God's care. The services themselves give the opportunity for family and friends to come together to give thanks for the life of their relative or friend, to express grief, and to commend the person into God's keeping.
Regarding the actual thanksgiving and funeral services themselves some people find planning the funeral with family and friends helps in their grieving. Perhaps you already know something of what your loved one wanted. You may even have planned the service together some time ago. If you are uncertain, one of our Ministry Team who will lead the service can help you choose suitable readings, hymns and prayers and advise on anything else you would like included. There are also facilities at St Paul’s to play a loved one’s favourite music and to show family photos on a large screen as well as to provide refreshments after the service is over.
At St Paul's we not only have experienced clergy and lay ministers to help you, but a dedicated pastoral team trained to support individuals and families through times of bereavement who are also available.
Some deaths will be especially traumatic, distressing or unexpected. The Church has special funerals for children, or after sudden or violent deaths, including suicide.
